Toorong Marnong means ‘joined hands’ in the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people.

Toorong Marnong is a tree grown from many roots that make up our core body, one of these being the Victorian Vice Chancellor Committee (VVCC) - representative body that entered the Toorong Marnong Higher Education Accord (The Accord) agreement in partnership with VAEAI. This Accord was established to promote collaboration between universities in supporting Victorian Indigenous students to undertake tertiary studies.

The core principles of The Accord are to:
Ensure that Indigenous education forms part of the core business of universities.
Identify opportunities for collaboration among universities.
Work towards continuous improvement in Indigenous education outcomes, and
Commit to the needs of Indigenous students, organisations, and communities.
By continuing to support the Accord, the Victorian Vice Chancellors Committee (VVCC) supports:
Empowering Indigenous communities to make good decisions about tertiary education;
Helping students and families access support and resources;
Building strong Indigenous student communities across the tertiary sector; and
Improving uptake, retention and success for Indigenous students.

Working with Universities

We are passionate about developing ways in which the nine universities across Victoria can co-operate to enhance their engagement with Koorie learners. It is through the joining of hands that a safe space is created that strengthens Koorie learners, a space that calls for change and allows Koorie learners to be seen no matter what educational level they come from.
