Held on the lands of the Latji Latji peoples, the Mildura Koorie Big Day Out was a massive success. By working closely with the community and education workforce in the Sunraysia Region, it was important for us to create a culturally safe space for Koorie Youth to engage with each other.

The day featured a series of panel sessions, workshops, and cultural activities with the aim of lifting aspirations and supporting engagement. By improving Koorie student retention and year 12 attainment we are supporting transitions to post-secondary schooling opportunities.
Sometimes it can be overwhelming at the big careers events to sift through and find opportunities specifically for young mob. But at the Mildura KBDO, it was all about them as we invited community organisations and employers that have a proven record in supporting First Nations employees to succeed.

Our view of education as Indigenous Peoples is a bit different, it is a lifelong journey of learning, with a responsibility to carry our elders’ knowledge with us as we grow.
During the Mildura KBDO, we hope that students will be reminded of the sacrifices their elders made for them to have equal access to education and to honour them as they plan their futures.
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners and pay our deepest respect to all Elders past and present for their knowledge and wisdom that continues to drive us on our educational journey. We also pay our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their continuous connection to land, knowledge, and waterways.
