Held at the Greater Shepparton High School, the Koorie Big Day Out is self-determination in action, an aspirational careers event presented by mob, for mob.
The day featured a series of panel sessions, workshops, and cultural activities with the aim of lifting aspirations and supporting engagement. By improving Koorie student retention and year 12 attainment we are supporting transitions to post-secondary schooling opportunities.

This year, was the first post-COVID year to have face-to-face Koorie Big Day Out events, and the planning committee wanted to celebrate this. In addition to university pathways, the event featured further training and direct employment opportunities along with wrap-around health and wellbeing support available to Koorie Youth.

With the largest First Nations community in regional Victoria, it made complete sense for Shepparton to be earmarked as a location for the Koorie Big Day Out.
Our view of education as Indigenous Peoples is a bit different, it is a lifelong journey of learning, with a responsibility to carry our elders’ knowledge with us as we grow.
In line with this year’s NAIDOC Week theme ‘For our Elders,’ participating students will be reminded of the sacrifices their elders made for them to have equal access to education and to honour them as they plan their futures.
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners and pay our deepest respect to all Elders past and present for their knowledge and wisdom that continues to drive us on our educational journey. We also pay our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their continuous connection to land, knowledge, and waterways.
